CASE STUDY
Helping Patients Understand Clinical Trial Results
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Many patients have heard the term “clinical trial,” but want to understand what a trial means for their treatment journey and whether it’s the right choice for them. It’s also important for them to see how clinical trial results provide valuable information for evaluating existing treatment options.
Our Challenge
We wanted UPL to show how clinical trial outcomes support clearer risk–benefit decisions.
We wanted to use UPL to communicate how the outcomes of clinical trials may help patients and their healthcare teams weigh the risks and benefits of a treatment. Our goal was not to explain the results of any single trial, but to help patients understand how trials are constructed, how measurements are gathered, and how results are compared.
Collaborating to apply upl
We held a Co-creation session with patients, caregivers, nurses, advocacy groups, and communications experts.
We wanted to make sure we had conversations with the right people to understand the gaps in our current communications. We spoke with patients, caregivers, nurses, advocacy groups, and communication experts to learn which questions they needed answered, what language was hard to understand, and how to make this a useful resource during conversations about treatment options.
The tools we leveraged in this example include:
Our Output
We created a resource with different levels, so
people could learn at their own pace.
Clinical trials are complex, and no two patient journeys are the same. We created a single resource divided into different levels of understanding and groups, so people can read different sections at different times based on their level of knowledge and where they are in their treatment journey.
OTHER RESOURCES
This resource explains key concepts about immuno-oncology and clinical trials to help you have meaningful conversations with your healthcare team.
